This 1880 home, originally used as a doctor’s office, needed a renovation to transform the former operating room-turned-kitchen into a more functional and elevated space. The original floor, intentionally sloped to a central drain and sagging worse with age, presented structural challenges that were addressed in the design.

The original quarry tile flooring extended into the adjacent room, requiring careful sourcing of new tile to unite with the existing. The design prioritized ample storage and practical finishes that complemented the warmth of the exposed brick and floor. Built-ins were added around the window, creating a cozy breakfast nook and additional storage to complete the kitchen. The result honors the home’s historical roots while meeting the needs of a couple who regularly hosts their large family.
